LMIA Based Work Permit

 

A labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is a document that an employer in Canada may need to get before hiring a foreign worker. A positive LMIA will show that there is a need for a foreign worker to fill the job.  Once an employer gets the LMIA, the worker can apply for a work permit.</P

A labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is a document that an employer in Canada may need to get before hiring a foreign worker.

A positive LMIA will show that there is a need for a foreign worker to fill the job. It will also show that no Canadian worker is available to do the job. A positive LMIA is sometimes called a confirmation letter.

If you need an LMIA, your employer must send an application to Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC).

Once your employer receives the LMIA, you can apply for your work permit.

To apply for your work permit, your employer must give you:

  • a job offer letter
  • a contract
  • a copy of the LMIA
  • The LMIA number

In the Express Entry system, each applicant is assessed with a total of 1200 points.
Out of these 1200 points, 50 points (for NOC 0, A, B) or 200 points (for NOC 00) are known as Additional points reserved for:

Arranged employment (positive Labour Market Impact Assessment)

To be able to secure these additional points 50 points (for NOC 0, A, B) or 200 points (for NOC 00), an employer in Canada must offer you an Arranged Employment Offer (AEO) backed by a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment.
